Polyphony Arts is delighted to present internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Linda Finnie, who is available for concert and oratorio performances globally.

Linda Finnie was born and educated in Scotland. After studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow (where she graduated with diplomas in performing and teaching, plus was the recipient of the prestigious Lieder and Governors’ Recital Prizes) she went on to capture the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award in London. Only three years later she came to full international prominence when she achieved the Kathleen Ferrier Prize at the International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. In addition, she received the Countess of Munster Scholarship and John Noble Bursary from Scottish Opera.

“Linda Finnie sings as one who walks naturally in the Ferrier tradition.”

Within only a few years Linda had made her debut at a number of major international opera companies including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, English National Opera, the Frankfurt Oper and Nice where she sang Waltraute in Die Götterdämmerung, a performance that established her as a new star in the Wagnerian repertory.

She made her first appearance at Bayreuth under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, singing Fricka, Siegrune, and the Second Norn in a new production of the Ring cycle, performances which were issued as award-winning recordings on both CD and DVD.

She went on to appear in the role of Ortrud in the late Wolfgang Wagner’s production of Lohengrin in its inaugural performances at the Tokyo Opera House and Arts Centre.

She performed many times with Barenboim, their musical collaboration on Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Israel Philharmonic being one of the more memorable highlights of their musical collaboration.

Other highlights from her distinguished career to date on both the concert hall stage and in the operatic repertoire include inaugural performances at the Tokyo Opera House and Arts Centre of Ortrud and performances of Mahler’s Symphony 2 with the St Petersburg Philharmonic, conducted by Mariss Jansons.

“Linda Finnie [Amneris]… made a vivid impact through the gleaming, incisive precision of her dramatically characterised singing and her sharply profiled emotional conviction.”

Recordings from Linda’s extensive and diverse discography can frequently be heard on Radio 3 and Classical FM, her most recent recording was made during her debut performance at the Bridgewater Hall Manchester, with Sir Mark Elder and the Halle , singing the role of Schwertleite in a concert performance of Die Walküre.

Other recordings span Beethoven’s “Choral” Symphony under Kurt Sanderling, Gluck Armide, Prokoviev Alexander Nevsky, Mendelssohn Elijah with Sir Richard Hickox, Mahler Kindertotenlieder and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Elgar  Sea Pictures and Music Makers. She has also recorded several song recitals on the Chandos label.
